BC Hospitalist Workload Model

The BC Hospitalist Workload Working Group first met on July 27th, 2007 to address the workload model issue identified in the Agreement-in-Principle executed in June 2006.  The Working Group comprises and equal number of Hospitalist and Health Authority

representatives, drawn from those Health Authorities that currently support Hospitalist Programs (FHA, IHA, VCHA and VIHA).  A Ministry representative has also been included, as well as a representative from the Physician Services Secretariat.

All discussions have been collaborative, the review of proposals has been fully discussed and all perspectives have been received and considered.

A consultant, Emerald Health Information Systems was engaged and the process adopted was to conduct a literature search, a survey, focus groups at each of the effected Health Authorities and a review of five pre-selected workload models.

A hybrid workload model has been proposed by the consultant and has been fully discussed by the Working Group.  Unanimous support of the proposed workload model is evidenced by the signatures affixed in the attached document.
