The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA), Regina Area invites applications for the position of hospitalist physician in Regina, Saskatchewan. The SHA is continuing to expand the innovative Accountable Care Unit care model at the Pasqua Hospital and is looking for additional physicians to participate in its growth. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, hardworking physician who enjoys acute care medicine, has demonstrable ability in a multidisciplinary team environment and has an interest in system solutions.
Hospitalists provide attending physician services seven days per week from approximately 0700 - 1700 hours/day and share in afterhours call coverage for patients requiring acute care in the Regina Area. Hospitalists attend to approximately 18 inpatients per Hospitalist daily and are responsible for the admission of new patients to the hospitalist service. The Hospitalists provide daily clinical management, daily rounding and complete discharge summaries. Hospitalists participate in and support Accountable Care Unit development including unit-based routines and unit-based metrics. There is a responsibility to participate in and attend educational activities and quality improvement initiatives and team-based interdisciplinary care. A work day involves 6 Hospitalists working collectively to provide patient care and assist each other with workload management while optimizing patient movement through the system. Call is shared equitably and is supported by an in-house medical officer after hours. The group rotation supports a balanced lifestyle with a one 7-day work week in three schedule.
The focus of the teams is to provide high quality and efficient hospital care with an emphasis on communication, interdisciplinary care and performance measurement. Assistance in providing smooth transitions back to the community as well as the development and implementation of system solutions to facilitate this type of care are important parts of the work. A dedication to patient centered care and quality improvement is essential to this position.
The SHA is dedicated to learning and is a partner in the growing educational needs of medical students and residents from the College of Medicine, University of Saskatchewan. Students and residents (of all disciplines) will be part of the environment and an interest in supporting their learning is expected.

The College of Medicine has an intake of 100 students per year with a commensurate number of positions for residency training. The Departments of Medicine and Family Medicine have distributed training sites in Regina and Saskatoon.

The successful candidate will hold certification or be eligible for certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) in Internal Medicine or the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC). Successful applicants will be eligible for a provisional or regular license from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan (CPSS) to practice in Saskatchewan. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training would be an asset. Comfort in provision of care to acutely ill patients is recommended. A commitment to quality improvement and system change is an expectation. Ideal candidates will have a combination of three years of residency and/or experience in Family Practice, Critical Care Medicine, Internal Medicine or Emergency Medicine and significant experience in hospital-based care.
This individual should be a team player, be able to interact effectively with patients, colleagues, staff and management, and function well in a high volume environment with a commitment to provision of high quality patient and family centered care.
In accordance with immigration requirements, preference will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.
The successful applicant is expected to participate in the undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education programs in the Regina Area and will be appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine or Department of Family Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan.
